Scope: Working for Verizon, General Excavating used a vibratory plow to install approximately 18,000 feet of the 2-inch HDPE duct while horizontal directional drilling was utilized to construct almost 3,500 feet of conduit. Installation on a fiber project includes burying the conduit, blowing a string through, pulling the fiber, and then splicing the fiber. The fiber from the old route was pulled and put on reels for reuse on other Verizon projects. The construction of hand holes, splice pits, concrete replacement, and site restoration were other important components of the project.
