General Excavating’s Jerry Kabourek was honored at the AGC Nebraska Building Chapter’s 2022 Fall Social & Awards Event on November 17th. Each year AGC presents its annual “Quality People Awards” to individuals from different companies who stand out for their dedication and leadership to the industry. One of the awards presented is the “Mentor Award” which “…recognizes a manager/supervisor that supports the professional growth of one or many employees and inspires each to reach their full potential.” That “someone” at General Excavating is Director of Operations, Jerry Kabourek.
Although we have many talented leaders and managers at General Excavating, Mr. Kabourek was nominated for the following reasons:
Jerry, with nearly 25 years of construction experience, joined the GE team approximately 1-year ago. During this time, Jerry's influence on the growth and development of GE's field employees has been significant. Early each morning Jerry makes a point to establish connections with field staff as they plan their work and discuss the challenges of the job. In particular, as General Excavating has secured more projects with a heavy civil scope, Jerry has been on site to assist in a variety of ways from laborer to project lead as he models and shares the skills necessary to construct this type of work. Training the next generation and growing the skill set of seasoned veterans is something Jerry is very passionate about. His teaching style is hands-on, which is especially useful in our industry where the duration of jobs gets ever shorter and the need for skilled tradespeople intensifies.
Jerry's love for construction, in particular the nuances of leading field staff, is apparent for all to see. Coworkers, young and old appreciate his genuine interest in their personal and professional lives and it is for these reasons, Jerry is a very deserving recipient of the AGC Mentor Award.
Congratulations Jerry and thanks for your hard work and dedication!
